Djup (Depth)

Djup (Depth) is a novel about a man who, despite a strong need of control over things, throws himself into an uncontrollable passionate love affair.

It is 1914, the first year of the Great War. Lars Tobiasson-Svartman has been given a secret military mission. He is going to sound the depth outside the eastern coast of Sweden. But what he really is looking for is the spot where the depth is immeasurable.

Lars Tobiasson-Svartman is a man with a great need of control. He always measures distances, memorizes the ships tonnage, armament and speed. At night, when he can't sleep, he reaches for his lead and puts it to his chest to feel its weight. He is a very complex man.

But there is one thing he can not control and when he by chance meets a woman who lives alone on a rocky islet he feels his whole world tottering beneath his feet. Even though married, he throws himself into a love affair and soon his life is a maelstrom of lies, unfaithfulness and self deceit.
