People posing as Henning Mankell on Facebook and e-mails from fake senders. Lately, someone has been working very hard trying to discredit Henning Mankell online.
– Miserable people are trying to discredit me. My friends started calling me to ask ”what did you write on Facebook”. When I explained the situation – that someone was posing as myself – they started to send warning messages to one another, Henning Mankell says in an interview with Swedish news agency TT. The false profiles on Facebook were discovered a couple of weeks ago, and were quickly shut down. But before that, the posers had already made public statements about Mankell supporting Hezbollah. Shortly the Facebook profiles were removed, a French journalist from the news agency AFP contacted Henning Mankell since he had received an e-mail that supposedly was from the author.
– It is well-made. To me it is evident that this is the action of forces friendly to Israel and that it is related to Ship to Gaza, says Dan Israel, Henning Mankell’s publisher, to TT.
