Yesterday the Chairman of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso and Henning Mankell attended the Prize ceremony for the new European Prize for Literature. Barroso and Mankell launched the event with a discussion about literature.
Other guests at the event were Swedish Minister for Culture Ms Lena Adelsohn-Liljeroth and the Commissioner for Education and Culture, Mr Jàn Figel.
Twelwe authors were awarded. Among them the Swedish writer Helena Henschen who received the prize for her novel The Shadow of a Crime.
