A wave of house burglaries has hit Ystad. A group of neighbours in the most affected area decides to take matters into their own hands and starts a vigilance committee and starts to patrol the streets at night. One night they discover a person who is acting suspicious and beat him up severely.

The day after the man and his car is missing. A Polish woman contacts the police and tells them that her husband has disappeared.  The case is not prioritized but Wallander decides to dig a bit deeper, and soon he realizes that the group of neighbours in the vigilance committee is involved. The body of the missing man is still to be found but in his cell phone Wallander finds some ghastly photos of a dead woman...

A biker is found murdered and the police finds leads, which point in the direction of the local biker club. The biker club hires daredevil couriers to run narcotics over Öresundsbron. When there is a strong indication that the victim was one of these couriers Wallander realizes that there are certain elements outside the biker club who are planning to take over the market for narcotics in the region. However, it is not until Wallander's colleague Isabell is brutally assaulted that he fully understands how far they are willing to go to achieve their goal.

Six year old Albin Landberg disappears without a trace from his kindergarten and the entire city of Ystad devotes itself to the family's and the police' more and more desperate search for the boy.

The traces lead Kurt Wallander and his colleagues to a man recently released from prison, serving time for child molesting. But also to truths that turn out to be more horrible and more complicated than anyone could ever imagine. 

Kurt Wallander has made the dream of his life come true. He has bought a house by the sea. He takes long walks with his faithful companion, the Labrador Jussi. Kurt feels more content and in harmony with his life than ever. All of a sudden the calm in idyllic Ystad is broken by a powerful explosion which makes the entire town go black. What has been blown up is the only transformer station in Ystad.

The explosion is followed by several other deeds. Military is called in and a state of emergency is proclaimed. Ystad starts to look like a war zone. But is it sabotage or an act of terrorism? There is chaos and chased by media, Wallander fumbles in the dark, looking for terrorists or perpetrators.

Eleven year old Johannes is found dead in a crevice. The autopsy shows that he has been raped and then beaten to death. Inspector Stefan Lindman is friends with the boy’s father and is the one chosen for the ungrateful task of notifying the boy’s parents.

Stefan promises that he will personally be in charge of the investigation and that the murderer will be caught. But Stefan is suspected of assault in a previous investigation and while he waits for internal affairs to finish their investigation he is suspended and cannot be involved with investigating the boy’s murderer. However, Stefan is also involved in the investigation on a more personal level. He has a dark secret, a secret which holds the answer to why he ended up in Ystad in the first place.

Hans Wiman´s remains are revealed when a house burns to the ground. When the initial investigation shows that Wiman was dead prior to the fire, the police start looking for a murderer.

Wiman proves to be a master of mystery. Kurt is drawn into the case when he finds a warehouse, rented in Wiman´s name, filled with counterfeit paintings. When he engages the help of local art expert Katrin both the investigation and Kurt´s pulse move into high gear, as the detective finds himself taking a personal interest in his new colleague.

However, Kurt risks overstepping boundaries and taking things into his own hands as he tries to determine what is real and what is not.

A dead woman and, for once, a suspect with an obvious motive. But Linda, Kurt Wallander's daughter, knows the suspect and is not convinced of his guilt. Stefan, Linda´s lover and colleague, however is certain and with Kurt´s backing digs into the man´s background with grave consequences.

To prove her belief Linda must solve the case herself. Is the murdered woman´s interest in chess the key to solving the mystery?

A bulldozer careens wildly down a sandy road and tips over on the beach. The driver is dead and the cab stinks of gin. Although a confirmed alcoholic, the autopsy shows the man was sober when he died.

Kurt, Linda and Stefan start their investigation by examining the background of the man, who had made a career from digging. They are led to a ruined castle where they discover a buried clue that is integral to the case. The team is working together better than ever, but beneath the surface, something remains unspoken and it could thwart justice.

When the police are called to investigate an abandoned container lorry they find it filled with dead bodies, including those of children. Human trafficking and a complicated ring of suspects, each part of a larger puzzle, emerge as the investigation unfolds.

Kurt finally gets a lead from an unlikely source, a group of local nuns, and a sports fan who fails to completely hide his true identity. But the case isn´t over until Kurt can figure out who is really behind the smuggling.

An American tourist is found dead and her husband demands the body and all her possessions be returned. But the woman had been visiting an internationally renowned photographer, who lives locally, fuelling the husband´s long-held suspicion that she was being unfaithful.

Kurt Wallander takes an interest in the cuckolded husband and the dead woman believing there is more to the photographer than meets the eye. But he is surprised to learn that the dead woman was murdered, and that the motive is to be found far from Sweden.

And then more people die.

When a farmer is kicked to death by his favourite horse, the horse breeder claims it is impossible, while an examination of the farmer´s body provides new clues to the cause of death.

The neighbours confirm that the farmer lived alone, but there had been a mysterious woman, that he met through the personal ads, staying at the house. Searches for the woman turn up nothing until the police discover the farmer´s bank accounts were emptied the day he died.

Kurt and Linda play cat and mouse with the killer when they place their own personal ad. The bait works and Kurt finds himself in deep water.

A woman is found dead one morning in her apartment, hanging upside down from the roof, drained of all her blood. There is no trace of the blood… Someone plays a cat and mouse game with the police, a game where someone through meticulous planning constantly is a one step ahead of the police. And a game that is directed towards the Ystad Police and more specifically towards the daughters of its inspectors.

Inspectors Wallander and Martinsson, known for their rational thinking, start to behave like hunted animals when someone is threatening their dearly beloveds. Everything is part of a diabolical plan, a plan which must have taken years to perfect.

There is an election campaign going on in Skåne and on the square in Ystad the posters of the Social Democratic Party promotes local politician Kenneth Nilsson – a politician who is determined to clear Skåne of its bad reputation as racist. At the same time a train arrives in Gdansk, Poland.

A coloured man is found aboard the train, the major part of his face blown away by a bullet. It seems as if the man was murdered in Ystad which makes it a case for Ystad police and for Kurt Wallander. The investigation becomes complicated when the gun used in the killing traces back to a childhood friend of Kurt Wallander.

A white car is parked by a side road in the beautiful landscape of Scania in southern Sweden. A child sits alone without an adult in sight. The child´s father has been reported as missing, while the mother is in a psychiatric institution, unresponsive and apathetic.

Kurt Wallander´s failing health sees Linda take the lead in the case. It will touch her deeply as she discovers that the child has been unscrupulously tricked, exploited and humiliated.

Linda has never been so committed to solving a case. She has her boyfriend and colleague Stefan Lindman to help her, but even Kurt is drawn in, unknowingly and against his will.

The married couple Olof and Carolina Wrangel is found murdered at their magnificent estate. The investigation shows that the woman has been tortured and raped in front of her husband before they were killed. It is clear that death must have been a relief considering the torture they were both subjected to. In this investigation Kurt Wallander is assisted by his daughter Linda and Stefan Lindman who will now have to prove that they are Kurt’s equals as police officers.

As the investigation goes on it is evident that the murder is about revenge and that the motive is to be found twenty years back in time.

A man with long braids and an Indian feather in his hair steps into a bank with something that resembles an explosive device around his neck. He demands that money should be transferred to a predetermined account. If not, he will blow himself and the bank up.

The man, who is known as Planet-Göran and claims that his father’s name is Sitting Bull, is regarded as the village idiot. Planet-Göran is considered to be completely harmless and is, at first, not taken seriously. However, soon everyone realizes that the explosive device is real – the village idiot’s threat is serious.

Dawn. Through the morning mist come a flock of burning swans. What at first looks like a prank by young boys soon take unexpected proportions when a murder is linked to the burning swans. The only lead that Kurt Wallander has is a Bible in English with haphazard quotations in Hebrew written in the bible. The quotations indicate that a lethal, religious fanatic is the murderer.

At the same time Kurt Wallander’s daughter Linda Wallander, arrives in Ystad. She is fresh out of the Police Academy and is about to start working as a police in Ystad. When another horrendous murder with religious overtones takes place Linda and Kurt are forced to cooperate. Not only as father and daughter but also as colleagues.
